What kind of input? What we think categories should look like? How they should work like? The post doesn't even say what categories this is about, the word doesn't appear in the AO3 interface. So do they want the info that we'd really like a minor character tag category? How what the Media categories should be named and include?
Great, so what did the users say? What are their expectations? What were those discussions 'you' had to understand what 'you' - not 'we' want from the new categorization system?
The discussion is anything but public and I have no idea what I kind of information they want and what other people have already said so I don't need to say it again but can bring up other points their points made me aware of.
Given precedent, the new categories will look like the initial plan of what the categories should look like, after it had been found that they need to be changed.

The categories they're redesigning are the media "tags" that the fandom tags are in, such as here: archiveofourown.org/mediaA lot of the initial feedback occurred in the linked Introduction Post, via comments ( archiveofourown.org/admin_posts/257 ) and through quite a few Support tickets where users did not want to submit their thoughts publicly, as well as in sources over the years such as F_FA (yes, org vols do read and participate there). This is not a new broken thing - some of those categories have been wonky almost from the get-go. There is a debate happening internally so that the workgroup can figure out what's not working and what a possible solution might be. They're planning on releasing it for internal comment, then external comment - any plan they propose would need to get vetted A) by the coders as possible to build; and B) by the users as something less confusing than the current accreted mess. I will note that the 'initial plan' consisted of redlining the categories that caused problems, and that in at least one point of the internal discussion involved throwing all of the categories out to see what we actually had. I would not be surprised if one set of categories looked similar, but I'm not actually a member of the workgroup, so I'd be guessing as to their proposal. (I do know that for a while the word "anime" was a good way to get a cybernetic glare aimed at you.) And unlike the Meta discussion, Board's not getting a notable vote in this one. --- regarding: That's a known and very common feature request ( trello.com/c/CblmWIWy ). Coders have looked at it, but have not come to any decision that they've told anyone.
