From the heads-up that the wranglers got:
"With increasing numbers of users, the Archive has been getting more traffic than ever these days (we logged over 4 million pagehits yesterday!) With this much traffic, the servers are operating at near or over capacity. You may have noticed some slow-downs or 502s. To help with this, our Systems people would like to take as much strain off the servers as possible during peak activity times. We've also noticed wrangling glitching when the servers get overloaded (occasionally failing to transfer over child tags when canonicals are changed). Because of both issues, we're going to turn off wrangling on the weekends, and possibly on some weekday evenings (USA time for both)."
Shouldn't be a concern for long. New servers are purchased, and estimated install date is mid-February.

ETA: thanks to some major extra work by AO3 tech people, the traffic is back within server capacity! Now there are no upcoming plans for wrangling shutoffs.
